Mr Wonderful, AKA Malcolm Fernandes, started his career as a Dance Music Presenter at the famous Café de Paris in Leicester Square in 1987 when it was run by the MECCA organisation. At that time it was one of the last bastions of Ballroom Dancing remaining in London. When Café closed in 1990 he agreed to Disc Jockey for the ex-Café dancers who formed a club called the “Café Society” and continued to dance in the West End of London wherever a venue with a large dance floor could be found.

At the time when he first started hosting dances, social dances were stuck in a rut where music was concerned. The order of the day at that time was for ‘Strict-Tempo’ dance music, which was a bit banal. He started a trend which was then slowly copied by other disc jockeys. He started playing non-strict-tempo music and music with vocals! People who went dancing to ‘enjoy themselves’ loved it. His dances would feature music from Nat King Cole, Doris Day. Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond. In fact he brought dancing up to date!

When not hosting Ballroom dances he was a very successful wedding and party Disc Jockey. His jolly and sometimes cheeky chat coupled with his stage presence and his collection of fabulous dance music from around the world rightly earned him the title of “Mr Wonderful”.

Encouraged by his growing number of dance fans and followers he started booking his own dance venues, and he now offers social dances almost every day of the week in some of the biggest venues in London and the Home Counties. His followers span all ages from students to retired pensioners and his fans will follow him to his Tea Dances and Evening Events however far.

Even if you can’t dance, Mr Wonderful’s music is guaranteed to tempt even the “two-left-footed” on to the dance floor. Single people are always made very welcome at all his dances and soon feel part of “the gang” after taking part in his now legendary “Snow-Ball”, “Bus-Stop” and Progressive Barn Dances.

The 4-Yearly Balls held are always sell-out affairs! These are the Black-Tie Events that will feature Dance Demonstrations by the best Professional and Amateur dancers in the world. He has brought to London the current World Champions Michael Malitowski and Joanna Leunis, Arunas Bazukas and Katusha Demidova. Past Champions Mirko Gozolli and Edita Danute, John and Snieguole Wood, Vincent and Flavia to name a few. He is now the only Dance Promoter to bring these great dancers to the Social Dance World.

Following on from the growing popularity of Ballroom dancing generated by TV exposure, Mr Wonderful Dancing has now branched out into bringing dancing to the public.

Quality Dance breaks are offered in some of the country’s best Hotels and abroad in Europe. He has hosted dances in Malta, Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Majorca, and Madeira.

These are now coupled with excellent dance workshops by his partner, the former Senior British Ballroom Champion Janet Cunningham-Clayton.
